As a testament to the fleeting beauty found in each day, Karina Andrews portrays the constantly changing sky in this series of approximately two-inch watercolor paintings completed daily over the course of last year, each titled with the date it was created. Though diminutive in size, the paintings are enormously engaging, with Astoria and its surroundings subtly revealed in intimate views over the seasons. Each miniature painting is an attempt to hold onto an ephemeral moment of color and cloud in the sky, and often the interplay of objects on the water and landscapes on the horizon. The year-long commitment to painting these sky views has been a way for Andrews to focus on these little moments, and she intends the series to be a reminder that every day holds something beautiful if we are open to seeking it out.
