Artist's Statement

Walking, observing, collecting—these are all things I do when I’m not in my studio, but are very much a part of my artistic practice. I don’t always set out to collect things, but when something interesting crosses my path, I’m often compelled to take it home. While it might look like hoarding to some, I see these objects as art materials that I will use—someday. And I almost always do. Presenting something that was cast aside in a new format, whether it be for art or function, has been a part of my creative process since I was a child. I am also constantly purging or finding ways to repurpose what I’ve collected. The intention with this series was to create something new in a way that honors the object's past while giving it a new purpose.
