Judy Vogland
Chipped Out, Sanded In
August 12 - September 5, 2023
Judy Vogland's artwork is bursting with life and a heady mix of stories, both real and imagined, with intriguing layers of history, characters, and improvised situations. Vogland, a long-time Oregon artist, is a compelling visual storyteller who also considers herself a surface maker. She works in water-based mixed media to create her narrative works, exploring realities and relationships through historic photographs, documents, ephemera, found objects, and her vivid imagination. Threading through the multitude of layers that make up her work are epic tales and childhood memories of her family's fishing heritage on the North Coast.
Vogland notes, “In this most recent work, I searched fantasized, funky, forced and often funny relationships found and developed while exploring historical logging and fishing archives of the Oregon coast. While sorting the discards of lives past, I played with things found, often reinventing lively stories and poking fun at humorous hijinks in everyday life.”
