The River Carved
RiverSea Gallery in Astoria is excited to present The River Carved, an invitational group exhibit honoring the Columbia River,
its environs and wildlife, as expressed through carving. This show features sculpted and carved artwork in a variety of
different media, including relief prints, which are created from carved wood or linoleum block before printing. The show
opens with a reception on Saturday, October 10, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, and continues through November 12.
Washington wood carver Adam McIsaac, who works in cedar, will contribute elegant vessels and wall hung relief carvings
in Northwest Coast tribal tradition, some up to seven feet in length. Astoria sculptor Joseph Webb and Totem Shriver, a
carver from the Willamette Valley, will exhibit abstract work inspired by the river. Other local artists include Brian
Cameron and Ted Messing, both showing pieces carved from wood. Expressive wildlife masks will be on display from Jason
Tennant of New York state. Debby Neely and Dona Reed are both printmakers from Washington who will be showing woodcut
and linoleum block prints, and Reed will also exhibit a selection of incised gourds featuring native flora and fauna.
